The ceremony concluding delivery of the IDF C1/D1 model fighters was held on Oct. 18, 2018 at the Aerospace Industry Development Corporation (AIDC). The two prototype IDF’s provided by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science & Technology (NCSIST) were upgraded by AIDC to IDF C/D model fighters and delivered to the ROCAF. Both fighters were placed in operation at the IDF Fighter Wing located in Taichung, Taiwan. This ceremony was very significant as it represented the successful completion of the technical enhancement of the ROCAF’s entire fleet of the IDF A/B fighters.
Since the IDF A/B model entered service in 1992, the Air Force had implemented a mid-life upgrade project to enhance and retrofit the IDF to C/D model which incorporates among other improvements such as advanced digital avionics system, electronic anti-reverse radar system, 32-bit flight control system and digital anti-skid system. Each fighter is also equipped with enhanced counter-weapon functions self-made by the NCSIST, which significantly improves fighter survivability.
