AIDC, leveraging its extensive experience in the "Domestic Aircraft Development Program," has built a strong foundation in aerospace system integration. This core capability has been successfully extended to the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sector, where AIDC demonstrates advanced proficiency in flight control systems and avionics integration. Furthermore, AIDC possesses cutting-edge composite material manufacturing capabilities and operates specialized facilities, which significantly enhance the structural strength and lightweight characteristics of UAVs—critical factors in improving flight performance and endurance.
In Taiwan, the UAV industry primarily consists of small and medium-sized enterprises or startups, which generally lack the capacity for large-scale UAV production. In alignment with government policy, AIDC is actively positioning itself as a mass production hub for UAVs both domestically and internationally, utilizing its existing manufacturing resources and extensive experience in military aircraft systems integration and engineering.
In support of academia and research institutions engaged in the "Advanced Defense Technology Research Program" focusing on unmanned systems, AIDC collaborates on the development and integration of UAV platforms. This early involvement aims to establish a foundation for future co-development and mass production of unmanned systems.
The "Taiwan Excellence Drone International Business Opportunity Alliance" (TEDIBOA) was officially announced by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in September 2024, with AIDC Chairman Hu Kai-Hong appointed as the Alliance Chairman. The alliance includes the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and seven co-chair companies, jointly promoting the internationalization of Taiwan's UAV industry. TEDIBOA aims to drive industry integration and advancement, support enterprises in expanding into global markets, and strengthen Taiwan’s strategic position in the global UAV supply chain through resource integration, technical cooperation, and industrial alliance mechanisms.
